Hello.

I was interested about your CS tourney, and what rules and maps we are going to / are going to be played.

Preferably tourneys are usually:
-5v5
-Double Elimination
-CAL/CPL rules (12 Rounds a side, total accumulated score / first to 13 accumulated rounds wins, 3 minutes 30 seconds a round)
-No ridiculous mods (metamod / adminmod)
-CAL/CPL server configs
- de_ maps only excluding some of the older ones (most played are: de_dust2, de_prodigy, de_aztec, de_cbble, de_nuke, de_inferno, de_clan1_mill, de_clan2_fire) dust itself is useless.

my little squad is called perkinsOffensive and we were curious whether or not this would be a worthwhile thing to check out / win. Just making sure when it comes to competitive CS we're all on the same page

Thanks very much for posting! We are in the process of laying out the tourneys, and should have some news posted on the event page by the end of the week.

This will be our first CS tourney, so any suggestions you may have will very much considered.

Go to CAL league (www.caleague.com) and download their server.cfg file. You can do RGL (www.rgleague.com) but their league plays 15 round halves. Both are designed for a 5 versus 5 set up.

Either way theres a few critical points to keep in mind.

1. NO HLGUARD NO CSGUARD NO ADMINMOD NO STATSMOD NO METAMOD ETC. Running things like these on LAN of all places will ruin the game play for all they do is lag the server causing bullets (sometimes) not to hit. Besides, nobody is going to cheat on lan and who needs stats?
2. Run a HLTV and you can record demos that way, so you can post them on your site for other CS'ers to take a look at. If you can't get HLTV up, and still want demos and screen shots merely make the players take them.
3. Play only the maps everyone knows / CS release bomb maps only! No cs_boomstix or fy_iceworld ridiculousness. These maps again are

de_dust2
de_prodigy
de_aztec <- good starter map
de_train
de_cbble
de_nuke <- really good finish map
de_inferno

4. Play a double elimination style tournament, i'm sure you know what those are considering you run UT tournaments. I'm sure it can't be that far off base. This ensures even the close losers a chance to come back and redeem themselves.

5. Make sure the teams are separated and or at their own tables. It's too hard to play / call spots when the opposing team is sitting next to you.

That's about all I can think of at the moment, if you want any other info I might know about cs lan tourneys (like cpl) just post or something i'll check it periodiocally.

I will be running the CS servers. Nolan is right on about the gameplay and rules.

The CS tournament will follow the CAL rules and server configs.

I talked with Nolan tonight about a few things and he keeps telling me he has a bike... but where is it??? =)

Anyway, Nolan has a good team. He used to be in D86 with me, so I have seen his skillz.

There are some great prizes. Each person on the winning team(s) will get one.

So bring your CS teams ans bring your skillz.

Hi I'm Nolan's good buddy from the world of competitive cs.

I am interested in helping out/coordinating the cs tourney in terms of play times, tourney schedule, server coordination/running

Im not looking to get paid (im with perkins offensive)

Lastly, if this tourney attracts enough attention, it could develop into a major success. As it is right now, nolan and I can bring in clans/and players from around the region.

If there is one thing that attracts the CS gaming masses , its a efficiently,competitively run LAN. Moreover, if this lan is a success, it could develop into a cash prize tourney which could mean big name teams, and big big name sponsors..

Thanks Carter' I will keep that in mind and see what comes out. This tourney is a "Stick our foot in the water, and see what bites" kind of thing. Should we only lose a toe. then "Oh, well". However, should we loose a leg in the water, then BOOYAH!

Ambush! is known for good tourneys, and that is why we are working with Krazy to try and give you the best tourney possible. Any and all input before, during, and after is greatly appreciated.

I dont know if you guys have IRC or not, but basically what you need to do is get an IRC client and get on irc.gamesnet.net and go into the #omaha channel and remind them about the lan daily till it happens. Also, I would go to most computer stores and just go crazy with flyers weeks in advance to the lan. Stores like CompUSA, BestBuy, Radioshack (?), NFM, Circuit City. Anywhere, where they sell games. Also posting on cstrike.edgerack.net would be good as a lot of omaha clans visit those boards.

You can also flyer up UNO campus too, as there are a lot of CS players there. The key is getting the word out, CS is very popular and a huge money maker. You can bring in crowds if you try. Make sure people tell their friends / friends of friends, friends of friends of friends. Make sure to let them know they have a chance at winning a prize for competing, but make sure it is very clear that it will be a 5v5 cs tourney and a serious one at that.

Games are fun by themselves. But throw out a possibility of getting something back from the game and the seriousness of it becomes even more fun.
