Computer lcd question?

I am adding an lcd to my system and just want to know if anyone else here has one? The one I'm getting is a basic 2X16 with the HD44780 chipset. Nice thing is it has a led backlight (bad thing is it's green. I'll have to change that :lol ). Any suggestions on software to use with it?
