It's Jolly asking for some answers.
I have a Gigabute GA-6BXE motherboard
on my brother/mother's computer.
I flashed the BIOS to upgrade support
of a larger hard drive and well now it won't boot. Is it recoverable?

Well...
probably not after the fact. But it would be possible under certain circumstances.

maybe Boom can fill in the details better. If it's under warranty, you might be able to get them to cover it.

First off your need a boot disk that has drdos or something of similar nature. You need to put the flash utility on there and reflash the bios.

Except, oh mighty Opie, the bootstrap is part of the BIOS.

So now what do you do?

And if the self recovery doesn't work, what do you do? You force a write of a new bios first before you call it bad.

I have not been able to do anything since I flashed the BIOS. When I restarted the computer the screen stays black and nothing else happens. the power supply runs all the drives turn on but the computer just sits and has a black screen.
I followed the instructions that Gigabyte's page had posted. I am not even sure what went wrong It just won't boot.

Yep, that board is TOAST!!:hotbouns: Since you had a 440BX based board it's really time to upgrade.

Anyone got an old P2 board laying around?

well It was time along time ago by my book but this is my moms computer.
If anybody has an old Board and chip laying around they could let go of fairly cheap I'd be intreasted.

I will check my stash tonight. Perhaps I have an old board in there. I have a few P2-450's and now I am only using one of them, so the odds are good that the motherboard and processor are still in the stash.

KM-400-M Motherboard
AMD duron 1.6Ghz
256 DDR

i dont know why im bothering to say this but on alot of boards you put the bios on a disk and the hold insert or something like that when you turn it on and it forces it to read the bios.

Actually, most boards at this time are still dependent on the BIOS to boot that floppy. The technology is fairly new to allow you to boot from floppy to flash the BIOS.

I wish it had been around much longer, many of the peeps on this board could have used it over the past few years.

that 1.6 will happily do 2.2-2.3 on air if it has the right stepping, and if you get adventrous it can be modded into an athlon

It's running 1.8 right now
thats through bios
I dunno if I want to go much higher right now
I need it to stay stable
can't afford any more chips for it
