While running the demo version of bf1942 the game will just quit and return you to the desktop. Has anyone else had this problem and will the full version do the same?

BTW
I am running windows XP pro and 384mb ram.

Please be more specific, when does this occur, what were you doing, etc.

I do not recall this specifically with the demo, although there have been times when this has occured in my full version load.  BG1942 has several "bugs", hopefully time and patches will resolve most of these, because it is a GREAT game.

I believe the times that it has happened on my full version was the result of a very specific series of event e.g. game finishes, disconnect from server, server goes down and a change is made, server comes back up, and I try to reconnect.  At least that is my recollection.

As far as I can tell no single event causes this problem. It only happens once a week or less but with my luck it will happen at the lan party :;(:.

I do plan on buying the full version and hope that fixes my problems.

Also how do I get bf1942 and ut2k3 to display my framerate? I want to see just how much better my new system is.

I don't know about BF1942...But in UT2003....when in a game... hit the " ~ " key..it is usually the top left corner of the keyboard ...to the left of the '1'. Type "stat fps" and hit 'enter' you should see the frame rate on the right side.

What is your system again?

I had the same thing in the demo and have had no problem with the retail BUT you have to have  virtial memory turned on, to low and the game will drop out

If you are having to rely on Virtual memory, then you should consider buying more RAM for the system.  The goal is to have enough that the system NEVER pages to teh hard drive.  That would be a waste of cycles.

Ok the game still keeps locking up but I plan on re-installing everything(even windows) to see if that fixes the problem.

The system as it will be the day of the lanparty

*Abit KG7 motherboard(flashed to 2003 bios)
*Athlon XP 1700+
*512mb pc2100 ram
*IBM 7200rpm 30gb hdd
*Gainward geforce 4 ti 4200 64mb (faster than the 128mb version)
*Sound blaster live 5.1
*3com 10/100 pci nic
*4X rd-rw
*Nokia 17" trinitron monitor
*Windows XP pro

I figure this upgrade has cost me about $700. Not bad for the system I have now. I just wish it would quit locking up in bf1942!

BTW
I have no problems in ut and ut2k3.

I read in a forum somewhere that there have been issues with some of the cds created. If you bought the game and are able to take it back, return it and replace it with a different box. Some say there have been issues with some cds not having all files on them and then the game has issues.. Just a thought...
