I just install a legal copy of xp pro got rid of the (trial version). The trial version would boot up in 20 seconds. This new copy takes 60 seconds! I used bootvis and after it ran for 5 hours, had to use the computer. The program says this may take a few min. not Hours. My start up scroll bar goes 30 times the trial version I had the scroll bar would go half way then boot into windows welcome screen. Any ideas?

Was this an SP1 edition? Have you done the updates yet?

Yes new cd's come with sp1 updates on them

I'll time my boot up later tonight and let you know. It might just be the difference between trial version vs full version, more stuff to load.

It would be fun to write a script that would "reactivate" your copy of XP everytime you log in, just to wreak havoc as MS. :lol

Problem is fixed for now added a fourth hardrive and I'm back to 20 sec. I’ll have to see what happens when I remove it.

bootvis must run everytime you boot up until it finishes.

That would be why it's different. reporting between the two is very different since the registration is different.
I am running eSafe on my system, and I will get 3 hits after eSafe starts just from the OS starting up after I login.

Big thanks to ZW. loaded a tweak program from one of Spades links after reboot I had no boot. Had a (ARC Firmware Boot config) falt=corrupt boot.ini
Got defalt boot.ini from ZW, back up and running. Ghost wouldn't even boot. I went in and changed all my boot.ini files in ghost images

You might want to point out which link and tweak you did so no one else does it. I did nearly all the tweaks I sent out with no problems. My bootup is very fast. The line dont even make it accross the first time and I go to desktop, unlike before the tweaks, it would go accross the screen about 5 or 6 times. When I have the time, I will publish all the tweaks that I did for those that like to have someone else do them first. :rolling

It might be all right to use if it's The only one you use. I have two other tweaking programs. This one didn't pick up on some of the tweaks that were already done like the others.

I put xp pro on CaptianVic's a h/d that had two partitions. The second must have had some system files on it and now wants to duel boot when posting. Can I go and edit the boot ini and take that off? There is no os on the D: drive. Or is there a better way so the duel boot screen doesn't come up?

SUMMARY
This article describes how to view and manually configure the Boot.ini file in Windows XP from within the Startup and Recovery dialog.

In Windows XP, you can quickly and easily locate the Boot.ini to verify and/or edit the file.

It is suggested to backup the Boot.ini file before editing. The first tasks will involve modifying folder option so as to view hidden files and then backing up the Boot.ini file.

Save a Backup Copy of Boot.ini
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

In Control Panel, start the Performance and Maintenance tool, and then click System.
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
Under System Startup, click Edit. This opens the file in Notepad ready for editing.
In Notepad, click File on the Menu bar, and then click Save As.
Right click in an empty area of the Save As dialog box, point to New in the Context menu, and then click Folder.
Type a name for the new folder, for example temp, and then press the ENTER key to create the folder named temp.
Double-click the new folder named temp, and then click the Save button to save a backup copy of the Boot.ini file.

Modifying the Boot.ini
While you can modify the Boot.ini file using the Startup and Recovery dialog, where you can select the default operating system, change the timeout value, or manually edit the file, the following method uses the command line utility, Bootcfg.exe.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open text box, type cmd.
At the command prompt, type bootcfg /?.
The help and parameters for BOOTCFG.exe will display.

Adding an Operating System
At the command prompt, type:

bootcfg /copy /d Operating System Description /ID#

Where Operating System Description is a text description (e.g. Windows XP Home Edition), and where # specifies the boot entry ID in the operating systems section of the BOOT.INI file from which the copy has to be made.

Removing an Operating System
At the command prompt, type:

bootcfg /delete /ID#

Where # specifies the boot entry ID that you want to be deleted from the operating systems section of the BOOT.INI file (e.g. 2 for the second Operating system that is listed.

Setting the Default Operating System
At the command prompt, type:

bootcfg /default /ID#

Where # specifies the boot entry id in the operating systems section of the BOOT.INI file to be made the default operating system.

I've got a P3 1.266 with 815 chip set running on XP home. If I add more than 512 meg of ram will it use it?

It should use up to 3gb of ram. Beyond that I not sure. I only remember hearing that about the Pro version and assume it would be the same for the Home version.

Put in 256 more and the system hangs and reboots. The manuel says that that might happen.

That sounds more like a board issue. Do you have the most up to date firmware installed?

It could also be bad RAM.

Remember FragShack, Opie?

When we upgraded FragShack to 1GB of RAM, it would hang. We troubleshot the problem and swapped out the sticks until we figured out that one was bad.

The ram is good I took a different one out each time and would bootup. the ausus tusl2-c just doesn't support over 512. Mabe a bios update but last time I tried that it looked up on me and had to replace the M/B the bios is sodered in.

On a differant note I just put in 1gig of pc 3500 and what a differance. OS runs alot faster.
