Found this fix on the web

Razer Boomslang & Windows XP
 Views: 9587  |  Print Tweak  |  8/12/2002

This Fix is intended for all users of a Razer Boomslang who have problems using it under Windows XP (Lost Settings when rebooted, not being able to program buttons).
If you install the common drivers from the provided cd (version 2.0.12, also downloadable from www.razerzone.com)

-First install the drivers, reboot when asked

If correctly installed, the razer application asks something about registration, press later, then apply or ok.

Double checking if the mouse is correctly installed

-Go to the Control Panel
-Click on "Mouse"
-Click on the "Hardware"-tab
-Check if it says "Karna USB mouse"
If so, continue, if not, install the drivers again

Customizing your mouse

-Open Control Panel
-Click on Razer Boomslang
-Adjust your settings (sensitivity, program buttons, etc.)
-press apply, then ok
Continue to the next step, the most difficult part!!

Making the settings permanent (this involves editing your registry, so be carefull please & do not hold me responsible for mistakes you make after this point of warning!)

1. startup Regedit (start>run>type: regedit >press enter)
2. go to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareKarnaRazer
3. You'll see all kinds of settings (I will call these "items") like DoubleClickSpeed etc.
4. go to HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTSoftwareKarnaRazer aswell
5. You'll see the same items as seen by step 2 along with a few others, but with other values
6. Adjust the values (by double clicking on an item like DoubleClickSpeed) in such a way that the new values match the values seen in the items in step 2
Adjust the values for the follwing items
-ButtonAssignedX (where X = 1 through 5)
-DoubleClickSpeed
-RazerSpeedX
-RazerSpeedY
-ScrollWheelSpeed
7. Reboot, the settings are permanent from this point on, well done and good luck!

Game on!

PS.
-I have the Razer Boomslang 1000dpi
-I connected it via the USB port
-I use Windows XP Pro Corporate Edition (Build 2600)
-I use the 2.0.12 Razer Drivers

The only difference between the two is that the 500 has a cord and the 700 is cordless

best cordless mouse Ive ever seen!!!!

it samples at the rate the USB does so you cant tell that there is no cord and it comes with 1700mAh Ni-MH batteries woohoo! :)

My company, Williston Consulting, is providing a utility to perform this registry fussing free of charge to all who are interested. Simply visit our web site at http://www.speakeasy.org/~wc/ and check out the utilities available. The Boomset utility fixes this problem nicely.

Thanks!

This will save me from haveing to always remember to open the config tool and then click OK.  I usually forget, get in a game, and then realize that I have no side buttons.

Bad juju, very bad!

This shall save my hide.

Get an MX mouse and forget about the slang.
It's a bummer though, I'm afraid that the RAZER's days are numbered, no drivers still for XP it's a ball vs optical, and they have issues, like needing to be cleaned once a week.  Of course I've been wrong before, they might be able to come up with something.

Hello guys, well i used to have same problem with my BS2k mouse that it got dirty very fast, sometimes when i was playing i had to clean it, sometimes up to twice a week (because i weas using the mouse alot).

So i was using my fingers and nails to clean the rollers on the mouse, but few days later i had same problem again with dirty rollers. Argh so irritating.

Then one day my brother in law lent me his rubbing alcohol, this is not any kind of rubbing alcohol as it is used to clean CD players, the lense itself (dont mistake this by the cleansing cd, which is crap).

What rubbing alcohol to use?
Next time try to use "Jinglers alcohol" by Jingler.

Its concentration of alcohol, since then i now clean the mouse like once 3-4 weeks, and i use the mouse alot for gaming.

Hi Boomslang,

im quite sad to hear your experience with your boomslang. but i have a "fix" for you, if you dare of course. This have worked great for me.

The problem you describe started out 2 days after i got my mice (yes i bought 2 BS2k)

I hade serious tracking problem with my mouse, at first i thought it was the mouse pad, but i was wrong the mousepad is fUNC 1030 black, its too good to make any problems.

So i opened my mouse and i removed the "shell" so i could put back the mouse and the ball on the mousepad and from there i moved the mouse slowly.

To my surprise i noticed that both the rollers where lopesided (egg curve). so it would create uneven surface for the ball to roll on, and it would also make it so that the cross-roller (the one where the spring is pushing the ball) would apply differente preasure on the ball.

To sumup, the problem is that when the boll glides along the nice side of the rollers its rolls perfectly, when it however comes to the point where the roller is egg-curved it need less preasure to roll around.

Its same thing if you take the roller that is inside the toiletpaper and squeeze it a bit flat, and try to roll it on carpet, where the roller is nice its no problem to roll back and forth, but where you have the sharp egde it will not make it around, so you have to gently lessen the preasure.

So what i did is follow.
I took apart the cross-roller (be careful with the spring, dont lose it). take it out and cut away 1 coil, now put it back and roll the mouse very slowly, does the mouse cursor still stop? Remove 1 more coil till you have solved the problem.

For me i dont want to destroi the spring, so i took a spring from a pen i had on my desk, the spring is very hard and long, so i had to remove like 5-15 coils (it depends how long and hard the spring is) but at least i can save my originale spring if i need to return my mouse :)

I have also posted this to the Razer Blueprint and other guys have modified the originale spring, but i went for the pen-spring.

I hope to get you back to BS2k ;)

Thanks for the info I will look into that. I might even make some new rollers I made new mouse wheels and that helps only for the short term. I also use a rubber foam mouse pad that help most. Thanks again

I actually have gotten fairly good at cleaning my Boomer.  The first time I did it, it made a world of difference.  I completely tore it down, and found a bunch of cat hair and gunk in the wheels where the optics are.  Once I cleaned all that crap out it's working fine again.

The thing I love the best and main reason I won't let go of the boomer is the On the fly sensitivity adjustments that you cna do.  That's the handiest thing ever!!!

Well I raisedp boomer for the bone yard. Compressed the spring and put in a new Aluminum ball wheel I made and had to go back to the foam rubber mouse pad. I have a LAN party to go to today see how it holds up. I also like the on the fly with the micro option. The 2000 dpi is what I missed the most. I can see the mouse go click click click at 800 dpi with my logitech mx and the work around to use it in games is sad they are still in the stone age:rolling
