Need a cork?
« on: August 22, 2002, 09:42:41 AM »
I was trying to free up some space on my server today, and found this movie in there among others.  I may post some others, and will post a message on the front page shortly, but figured I would offer this treat to forums members first. ;)

Zoë: Shepard, isn't the Bible kind of specific about killing?
Book: Very specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzy around the area of kneecaps.

Actually, the guy in the clip is from 3rd Rock.  I still don't know his name, but I recognize his voice.  It's an old clip.

That's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.   And no Boomstain, opps I mean Boomslang, I'm not opposed to chemical warfare if it means I win.

Oh geez!

You should have warned me not to watch this at work, I'm distrubing everyone by rolling around on the ground laughing.

Perhaps beens and weenies would be more popular.

MFM?!?  Where in God's name did you dredge one of those up?  Half the peeps on this forum haven't a clue what that is, it's so old!  Glad it wasn't RLL or ESDI!

I took my vitamins.  It was in that old Cray Power Series III that I have in my garage.

As for the old equipment, my first computer was a Burroughs B-80 mainframe with card punch and a stack of ESD.  I could only run it for about 45 minutes before it got to hot in the garage.  If I remember to, I'll bring one of the old platters that had a head crash to the LAN party.

Not many people have ever heard of punchcards, let alone seen one.  And you OWN one?!?  You have GOT to be older than me.  Punchcards were big when I was in the elementary school, and we getting old when I graduated HS.

And to think I used to service those beasts....Along with the B21 and B25 series word processors.  I still have all the 8 inch floppies and the chips for them.  LOL  FYI, Opie, I was the Burroughs Service Rep for Omaha for about 3 years until it switched to Unisys.

Did you get laid off like everyone else did just after the "official" merger?  Dad had worked for them for 19 1/2 years when they laid him off.

As for the age thing, when I had my punch card reader it was probably one of the few still working in the country.  Late 70's to early eighties.  I think that sometimes my Dad must have used vacume tubes for my pacifier.  I cannot remember a time when a computer or similar devies was not ever present in my life.

LOL.....No I left on my own accord and ventured into building automation or DDC controls.  Computerized facility management, it just seemed to be a facinating technology at the time.  Sounds like you followed in your dads footsteps..:hotbouns:

Hey Spade!
Did you know a guy by the name of Dave Ward while you were at Burroughs?

Sort of....I don't just repair them when they are broken, but I do everything from designing customer componets to customizing software.  I'm supposed to be the repository of all computer knowledge.  HA!  If my boss only knew how much research time I put in on the net.  Just love google.com .
