Title: The Ambush! Lan Party Queso
Post by: opiesilver on September 28, 2009, 04:00:13 PM
This is an old favorite for Lan parties we hosted for so many years.  In many ways it was one of the highlights of our parties.  Well, that and my singing while fragging away.

Hardware:

Large crockpot
Large Skillet
Spatula
Large Ladel
Strainer

Ingredients:

1 lbs lean Hamburger  (substitue with any ground meat you like)
1 12 to 16 oz jar of medium Salsa  (we used Tostitos brand)
1 gallon for cheddar cheese sauce (found in the piggy section of Walmart's)
1 10 to 12 oz jar of Jalapenos
2 large bags of chips  (Tostitos band is great but generic works just as well)

Cooking:

Brown the ground meat and drain off the fat.  Extra fat is not good in the final product.
Drain the Jalapenos (don't use the juice because it's bitter) and finely chop all the peppers making sure to remove any stems.
In the crockpot combine all the ingredients, except the corn chips, and stir well once every 30 minutes for 2 hours or until the mix is hot.

Serve it on anything you like along with a large portion of your favorite corn chips and enjoy.

Yes, I did.  But I was being nice and not pointing out that it wasn't the same recipe. ;)

Here you go (from memory)

Ingredients:

1 lbs lean Hamburger  (80% lean)
1/2 large container jug of medium Pace Picante Salsa
1 large brick Velvetta regular cheese  (you can use a gallon of cheddar cheese sauce but it won't be the same)
l brick of Mexican Velvetta (mild)
1 10 to 12 oz jar of Mrs. renfro's sliced Jalapenos
2 large bags of chips  (Tostitos band is great but generic works just as well)

Brown the hamburger and drain off the excess fat.  Slice up the Velvetta cheeses and add to a crockpot with the salsa.  Once the cheese and salsa have reduced to a creamy consistency add the hamburger and about 2 tablespoons of the liquid from the Jalepeno bottle. Add about 10 slices of jalepenos. Mix together and cook for several hours (4-5 is good).  Make sure to stir the sauce regularly so that the flavors can blend but do not over cook it.

If it is too hot, back off the amount of jalepeno sauce and remove the slices.
