Life / *** Rediscovering the Kingdom ***
« on: October 11, 2004, 04:50:17 PM »
Per a request from a friend, I am putting this in the forums for our discussion. This is not meant to be a 'personal' debate of any kind. This is me, sharing some concepts that I thought were cool. You are welcome to share your thoughts.

You must know that the comments that are coming from me, are from a person who believes in God, believes that the Bible is the Word of God, and that God created us for a purpose.

The thoughts/concepts I am discussing is from a book I have been studying:

Rediscovering the Kingdom by Myles Munroe

I will be referencing some thoughts from this book as well as references from the bible during this dialogue.  Please feel free to join in the discussion.

I understand that some of the first few below statements are long, however they lay some ground work for the discussion. You are more then welcome to skip down to where we are discussing concepts/thoughts and the like.  Again, share your thoughts and join in the fun!:hotbouns:

« on: September 22, 2004, 12:02:51 PM »
These are some pictures to get you by. Beware, these are from my digital 'video' camera. My video is GREAT! But it wasn't made for pictures.

Those of us who took video and pictures will be pooling them together and get them out as soon as possible. These should tie you over until then.

I just want to thank you all again for coming to F3 2004. It was an awesome success because of you gamers! :hotbouns:

The link to get you by is:
F3 2004 'temporary' Pictures

Once the pooled pictures are ready, we will notify you of the new link. Thanks for your patience!;)

*** I know these pictures are dark. Hopefully, the pictures from the other 2 media people's cameras are better. I will take the darkness into account at the next LAN party. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Software / \"Game Drive\" from Farstone
« on: October 28, 2003, 04:18:50 PM »
You are at a LAN party and the gaming begins. The first tournament starts and it is UT2003. What do you do? You get out your UT2003 Disk 1 and put into your cd tray so you can play the game. Once that tournament is over....the game of choice is Perhaps Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat... So what do you do now? If you are me and alot of other gamers.. you would open up the cdrom pull out the disk for UT2003 and then pop in the disk for BF1942.   To me, that is such a big hassle.

There are patches out there that allow you to 'crack' the software so your game will not 'seek' for the cdrom. However, in some instances you need to have everyone using that 'crack' in order for everyone to be able to play together. With that being said... I think I have found an AWESOME alternative to having to swap out cd's all the time.

There is a company called Farstone that has created some software called "Game Drive" . This software allows you to take your game cd's and create VCD images of them. It also gives you the ability to create up to 23 virtual drives on your system. Once creating a VCD of the disk(s), you insert it into one of your newly created virtual drives, and install the game onto your computer using the VCD. Once installed, you can take out the physical cd and OOOOlah!

A copy of that cd is now on your harddrive and was installed using that vcd in the virtual drive you created. The game will now reference it in the virtual drive and you no longer need to swap that game cd in/out. When you reboot, the VCD images are still in the virtual drives you have created.

For example, I have created a VCD image of UT2003 disk 1, MOHAA Disk 1, and BF1942 disk 1.   I created 3 virtual drives (H, I, J). I have insert these VCD's into those virtual drives. Now when I start up a game... I don't need the actual cd's anymore.. The games start right up. No more swapping disks in/out. YAHOOOOOOO!

By now, you probably have a question like..."But doesn't that use hard drive space?"  The answer is yes. I do not know how big my VCD's are because I am at work writing this, however, I will update you all after I get home.

If you are interested... you can get it at GOGAMER.COM  for about $20.

Not a bad price for the convenience of not having to switch cd's anymore.

Software / Game Voice and MSN/WIndows Messenger
« on: August 19, 2003, 08:57:29 AM »
Good Morning all,

Well...It looks like a possible problem is arising on the horizon of Game VOice.. It looks like a change is being implemented with the .Net, MSN messenger, Windows Messenger versions. Some of you probably already have this email.. but I thought I would post it......

***************************************************
ATTENTION: IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED FOR MSN AND WINDOWS MESSENGER USERS.

You are receiving this e-mail because you are a MSN Messenger or Windows
Messenger Service user.

As part of Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing initiative, Microsoft is

***************************************************

Why does this pose a problem for GameVoice... here's a link and I'll also cut and paste the specific issue with Gamevoice...

****************************
Known Issues with Messenger Services

MSN Messenger 5.0 or later does not support Game Voice 1.0 or 1.5, including Game Voice Server. To use Game Voice, please install Windows Messenger 4.7 or later from the Windows Messenger download page.

*******************************

I think we can upgrade to the 4.7.2000 version and everything would still work. However I have not been able to find that Specific version update.

I'm not sure if this means that Gamevoice will not work at all or.. we just won't be able to see contacts.. My understanding was it uses the Messenger interface in the background for it to work.. I also remember ZEET having a problem with Gamevoice when he upgraded to the latest version. He couldn't connect...

The BIG question is will my Game Voice Controller become a switch for my speakers and headphones.. :;(:

OR

Will it still be able to be used for communication?

Hmmmmmm..........:8o:

Ask the techies! / The importance of jumpers!!!!!!
« on: December 12, 2002, 01:27:51 PM »
I recently upgraded to an Asus A7V33 motherboard with 512mb of PC2700. I also aquired Windows XP Pro at the last Ambush hosted Game day. IT WAS AWESOME if you didn't go  :hotbouns: ... But anyway, I have had non stop issues since upgrading. My machine has locked up, automatically shut down, gave blue screens with Stop errors, Games stopping, and Device driver issues.  I wasn't really able to narrow it down. Very frustrating!

I stumbled on a Motherboard compatibility reference on Mushkin (Ram manufacturer) website. They reference that Asus has the Jumper 1 and Jumper 2 defaulted to the wrong configuration according to the JEDEC guidelines. Defaulted, JP1 should be jumped 2-3, JP2 should be jumped 1-2.   When I bought the motherboard, I assumed (shouldn't have) that the board had all jumpers defaulted and I didn't need to do anything. Well, after checking my system yesterday, in the hopes of fixing a possible RAM issue, I found something. My JP1 and JP2 were NOT at the default setting. They were both jumped to 2-3 . Which meant WAY TOO MUCH voltage was being sent to my ram. COnsidering the fact my ram is OEM, this wasn't good :shame:. It could also explain why I have been having problems. My board was overclocking my ram.  So I did the suggested configuration from MUSHKIN.... didn't work.. TONS MORE crashes.. immediately.. Heck!  It took 3 times of rebooting before I could get to my desktop.  I decided to try the default setting from the manual on my motherboard from Asus.. Low and behold...stability.. i played last night for about 4-5 hours . Which by the way, I would like to thank Spade, Morpheus, Lab_Rat, and Opie Silver who ALL played a part in my testing last night. The sacrifices you made last night when playing and using gamevoice, will be noted. :)

NO crashes except for one.. but I had UnrealED 2.0 (it took 34% of my cpu alone), a hidden UT session running and then I opened another because I didn't see the first.. But my machine didn't turn off, it just slowed WAY DOWN. But, that was a plus, it usually just shut off. I was able to shut everything down and restart myself.     I have received a "device driver error" but I think maybe that has something to do with all the crashes I have had. (possibly) So I think I am going to do a FRESH install of everything.. fdisk it and all..

Bottom Line..

1):shame:Don't assume your jumpers are defaulted, always check them JUST TO MAKE SURE.. You don't know if the place you bought it from used it as a test (:crash:), or the manufacturers made a mistake when the jumpers were placed.:crash:

2) Jumpers can make a HUGE problem if incorrectly jumped.

3) kicking the pc doesn't help

4) Did I say jumpers can make a HUGE difference?
