Title: Ingress: An Overview
Post by: ZWarrior on January 04, 2015, 09:42:34 AM
This is a mobile game that requires you get out of your chair and into the *gasp* real world.

It is published by Niantic Labs (which is a division of Google) and involves taking control of portals found around the world.  The portal is located on a publicly accessible location such sculptures, paintings, historical locations and other locations of import.

There are 2 factions in the game, Enlightened and Resistance, who compete for control of those portals.  Capturing a portal is done by either locating a neutral portal and placing resonators to power the portal for your faction or by locating a portal controlled by the opposing faction and using offensive weapons (XMP Bursters and Ultra Strikes) to destroy any defenses and resonators on the portal which then turns the portal neutral. After you control a portal you can link it with other portals controlled by your faction to create Control Fields and score point for the faction.

This is a world wide game that is played locally.  Be aware that this bad boy uses high-res graphics and GPS so your battery is toast when playing.

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
iPhone: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ingress/id576505181?mt=8

Currently actively playing:
Zeet (Zeet959)
ZWarrior (Malikont)

Note: We are playing Resistance and if anyone chooses to join the fight to protect the city from the influences of the Shapers (via the Enlightened frogs) let me know and I can help you get leveled.  I believe Zeet will eventually be in here as well and he is higher level than I am at this point.

There is a lot to the game and I suggest you start by going through the training to learn the very basic parts of the game and then contacting someone who is playing for your faction to learn the ins and outs of the game and how to level quicker.

You can do a faction change. You only have one chance to do a change.  Do it! I can help ya level up pretty quick.

It sounds like he has at least a few days to wait, but we can power level him once he gets started.

BTW, Anderson is loading it as well so we should have him on board shortly.

Thankfully there are no RPGs for him to gank us with in this game.

It was one of those impulsive things. I saw the game and downloaded it. I was hasty and picked a side.  I picked wrong...I sent in the request to change factions.

I wonder if it would be cheating or inventive to use drones and robots to play too? lol Although the FAA has disapproved of FPV flights of drones by hobbyists. Theres nothing about FPV on 4wheels drones and a remote desktop of a tablet hosting a game.  It could be interesting. just a thought...not an intention.

It has been suggested you submit a request to have your account deleted as that usually processes faster than a faction flip. ;)
And the drones?  Not legal according to the TOS. ;)

I am not sure on that. The Niantic account is tied to your GMail account but I believe that it is still separate.

It may make it unusable for the game. Not sure about true email capabilities

I am well into L6 and found that the best ways to gain AP would be planting resonators, throwing links and creating fields. Don't worry about getting the big field, just throw as many as possible to get the AP.
If you can team up with a high level player you can earn even more AP with them destroying frog portals and you building them up and linking them. When I went to First Saturday last week I had two high level players with me and we hit UNO and Memorial Park for 110K in AP within 90 minutes. To put that in perspective, I have made 130K in AP since last Saturday (6 days).

Well I'm 1/4 into level 3 and I love this game. My area is very active and I have found some groups I could Meet up with.  I must say taking a portal over is very satisfying

Did a run with Zeet yesterday where we hacked frog portals in three cemeteries and then smashed frog portals in Pipal Park as well as other portals local to the park all while setting up fields.  It was about 100K woth of AP and a metric ton of fun.  You are so right, Snauz, smashing portals is a blast. Especially when you are working with someone to do it.

I can't believe how many grey unclaimed I portals I have found. They are mine now. Why do people just leave one resonator? What is the tactic? Are they getting more portals with less resonators?   But they are not usable are they?
Title: Re: Ingress: An Overview

The first resonator you put on a Portal is worth 625AP.  Plus it claims the portal as yours.  I have notice some players just run around or drive by claiming of portals just to get the 625AP and their name. Then the move on.  Especially if all they want is to get the credit toward unique portal captures to get there next badge and / or level (past level 8).

As J0lly said they are just getting the unique capture on that portal, both for AP and for the medal.  You are right that the portal is not usable for linking without all resonators fully loaded on the portal.  See my other post for more info on how to level faster.
