Title: Home Page in XP
Post by: Rogue_Ambush on December 06, 2003, 10:58:02 AM
I have a dumb issue but I can;t seem to figure it out...

I usually set all my PC's home pages to ...Well...
AMBUSHSITE .COM of course...

Anyway, every couple of initiations of Explorer, my home page changes to some search engine, I think it's called ZIPSEARCH?

I keep entering the ambushsite and reset the home page to current and it works a couple of times...

Any suggestions? I am a little new at XP in this area. I have not seen this before..

Your homepage is being hijacked.  You have some of that nasty spyware on your system.  I'd suggest doing two things.

1.  Do a search on Ad Aware, download and install it.
2.  Use a virus scanner on your system as soon as you can.

This will wipe out quite a bit of the problems you are having.

Do you have cable yet?  I'm feeling the need to frag you and Kenny sometime soon.

Ya know the funniest thing here?

That is his 3rd or 4th ID!

As far as the problem...
You have installed an app that hijacked your browser and, most likely, your hosts file.

Adaware may help with that.  Also check http://www.spywareinfo.com.

Is that a good enough excuse for him to reload the OS?  Just wondering if old habits still exist.

I use AdAware and also a second one, Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download)

One usually finds things the other didn't.  As a bonus, SpyBot S&D will patch you hosts file to defeat a lot of the pop-ups.

It is bad when you know a freind of yours has a speed dial number to Microsoft and they via caller ID route him directly to the reload support helpdesk.  :lol

I have only reloaded XP 5 times this year. I think I am, doing good... Ummm it's the others I have reloaded allot. Like ME, and 98. I think I have reloaded in all maybe thirty times in 2003. Not a new record mind you, but a healthy maintenance of one...

By the way, I know know a couple of people at MS. Is that not normal? I think I now have my own hotline to them...
