Title: Cod2
Post by: Boomslang on June 07, 2005, 04:22:55 PM
According to Infinity Ward, Call of Duty 2 is using all-new tech for the sequel, including a proprietary graphics engine to replace the Quake 3-powered system from before. "[We're] not using anything from Call of Duty 1," claims Collier, but even though the game clearly looks sharper than the original, there's a familiarity to the characters and weapons, as if seeing the original game suddenly converted to HDTV.

Well, I guess I better start saving for it.

I figure that is the only game I will need for the rest of the year.

Maybe some Battlefeild 2, but Call of Duty 2 seems more of a cannot survive without type of game.

I knew they weren't Going with Q3e But I hadn't heard what they would be using. They're keeping a tight lid on it too. The was a rumor that the D3e might be used but again no fact based reports have been made.

I would really like to know what they're using.
I doubt they Dev'd there own unless they Contracted.

The mystery is to much I am going to burst with anticipation. Ahh!

There is a chance that they could be coming up with something of their own to probably keep quiet on the production of the game.

Where did you get the info on the minimum requirements for COD2?

I'm pretty sure that you are not going to need a 4  or 5 GHz processor to run it.

Military Channel to work on Call of Duty 2

Expect documentaries and vignettes

THOSE OF us who just love to waste our lives watching the same program repeated again and again and again will be pleased to note that Activision has teamed up with the Military Channel Stateside to produce a "Making Of" documentary for Call of Duty 2: Big Red One.
The documentary will tie in the making of the videogame with the history of the real-life American military unit which was, we’re told by Activision, the most decorated in the US Army at the time.
The Military Channel will also produce a series of historical vignettes which will feature in both Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 2: Big Red One – and yes, they are separate games.
Indeed, there is a continuing controversy from developers Spark who have sued the publishers, claiming that the idea for Big Red One was nicked off of them, as we reported back in August. µ

For the Xbox, PS2, and GC they will be getting Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. It will  not be available for the Pc. That news has been out for almost a year.

Well So far I am not to impressed. It might only be the demo but I already am not sure about the interface, and were the heck did my sprint go. I didn't like the fact that i couldn't scroll thru my weapons. The fast keys are nice , like a key to throw a grenade or smoke. I  might need to just mess with it a little.

The eye candy is nice I have it set lower on my system but I still saw some nice things. Smoke acts more like real smoke and is easier on the system. the particle use is nice.

haven't seen the bot interaction yet, but it's still only a demo.
they still require you to lead the team some time. the game won't move on untill you do.

I beat the demo on reguar in 7 min. hardend in 10 min and vetran in like 25 or something. it got really hard in vetran.

Not sure what to think but I will probably own it.

Played it on regular several times last night.  The bots do respond to what you are doing.  I forgot there were two inside a door way, and they calmly let me sneak up and stick my head through the doorway.  Then they kindly clubbed the crap out of my head with their rifles!!!

The graphics were incredible.  The controls need a little work, but at least there are 2 weapons, 2 grenades.  I did miss the sprint, and liked the fact that there was no health bar anymore.  If you are hit, duck back and rest for a moment.

I didn't like the way grenades are handled though.  If the enemy throws a grenade, I have to move from behind the crates I am behind and go to a wall.  But if the bots that are with me don't, no big deal.

Ran great on a 2700+ with 1GB RAM and a nVidia 6600/256MB.  I will play it again.

I do wonder how big the final game will be if one short level is almost 700MB.

I am just not impressed with the game as a whole
Maybe the full version will be better. It just seem less then i was
expecting from all the hype. I did notice that the germans do try and run
from the grenades now.

I want my Sprint back
I want my Grenade cooking back

But one cool thing I have found is that if you do toss the gernade, they will also try and pick it up and throw it at you.

I found this today

I have been trawling through the demo files and checking other resources to see what old/new features we can expect from the full game. These are some of the findings:

-There will be a Shotgun in Sp and MP.(The M1897 Trench Gun)

-There will be no Flamethrower

-Punkbuster will be supported. (well at least there are entry's for punkbuster in the mp server menu, hopefully the anticheat functionality will be sooner rather than later for the online gameplay)

-There will be a Scoped Lee-Enfield in SP and MP

-It will have Voice Chat in Mp

-You can ignore the Voice Chat

-Found this message "Server is not a demo server.", will they release a MP Demo?

-There is a Favorite Server List in MP

-COD2 has some kind of clan support:You can add your Clan name, clan motto and more.

-There is no quick chat option like "enemy tank spotted", Will tanks be a feature in MP we'll just have to wait and see?

-there are ranks in MP from Private to General like in UO.

MP Modes are:
-Deathmatch
-Team Deathmatch
-Capture the Flag
-Headquarters
-Search and Destroy

Roll on MP, for me it beats AI knowing that someone somewhere is swearing away at their screen 8)

hey guys, I found a way to make the grenades cookable.  I still haven't found a way to make them selectable.  I realize that the the full game will be out shortly, but here it is (for what it's worth)...COD2

cookable nades[/url]

oh, I guess the thompson has a 30 round clip too.

Here's another useless fact.  You can bind a key to "weapalt" and it makes you think that it has changed the rate of fire, but in fact the thompson_semi is still fully auto

You all need to play with cheats at least once.  Not for "playing" but enable "noclip" and fly around.  Then see just how large the maps can be.  They are HUGE.  I would say at least twice as large as Stalingrade...Probably bigger.

And Z, the mod is just practice, for when the real thing comes out.

can't wait for coduo 2

This game is not for every body. It's the most demanding video card game yet. @ 1280 x 1024 13 fps in intense battles. The game play is easy just like the demo. I would wait to get the MPdemo. The default video settings for the 6800 gt are 800 x 600. Most of you will have to run 640 x 480. Now when is the last time we had to do that....UT the early days. the game looks great. MP is just like COD but the maps look alot better. For right now I would stay with coduo as a clan. Anyone who would like to see it give me a call.

Problem with most of the ones available online, is that they only cook the frags, not the smokes.  I sent ZW two little mods last night.  If he wants to post links, I'll let him.

1. Multiplayer-cooks frags and smokes

2. Singleplayer-cooks frags, smokes and even.....potatoes :)

Oh, and as for run... You'd have to get the source code, and make a new executable (like UO did to COD).  There just isn't support for a sprinting.

If you check out the first .iwd file, you will find all of the developer's configfiles.  And nobody has a sprint key.

Besides, they have to leave some stuff out so when they release the expansion pack, people will buy it.  Things like running, and driving, and flying???

Although, they do have a "cycleOffHand" and "+offhand" keys that are not currently supported.  Offhand refers to things like smoke, frags, det packs(when they come), and other hand held goodies...

So at one point in the past or some point in the future, you could have "+offhand" to select frag/smoke category as the active weapon...ya know holding the grenade out in front so you could bash someone in the head with it.  Then "cycleOffHand" to change wich 'offhand' was ready to be used.

One last note.  Jolly and I were discussing the some other mods.  What would you think of sticky grenades.  As in throw the grenade against something, and it sticks.  Things like walls, trees, vehicles, and maybe even people???

A mod having frags grenades stick to a player!! Alright! Something like Halo. Now the fun part is watching someone try to run away with it stuck to them.

Or something nobody has done is a sticky smoke grenade.

but 303'nadecooking is avalible and it is availible for MP, and SP.
you can also cook potatoes. in the SP game. :D

anyone that objects the name can burn, 303 is the developers :D
I'll get a link for D/Ls tonight.

Well the run thing is just faked.  It Just changes the player move speed when you are holding the "use" key (F).  It's actually pretty funny.  You can "run" while crouched...You make like a bread truck and haul buns, but you don't make any footstep noises.  Also there are some issues with it.  Like falling and getting stuck in crevices or sand bag piles.  More later

I did read that review, and all i have to say is, Intel as not learned anything.
It, may have had a higher clock speed but it did not beat AMD where it count, and that is Processing.

And reading the page on the patch, it does say HT and dual core procs.  That would be the AMD procs as well from my reading.
Quote
This Call of Duty® 2 update is recommended for Windows 2000/XP users with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) enabled processors, multiple processors, or systems with a dual core processor.
It appears that they are just enabling multi-core support, essentially SMP,  in the game so that the users can get even better performance from the code.

AS for Jolly..........
“Pentium Extreme Edition 955 is not an eternal loser in the dual-core duel anymore. There are a lot of applications where Pentium Extreme Edition 955 managed to defeat AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+, the top dual-core solution from Intel’s competitor. In fact, AMD processor remains the leader only in gaming applications, in professional OpenGL tasks and a few codecs,” said X-bit labs analyst Ilya Gavrichenkov in article called “First Look at Presler: Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 955 CPU Review

Intel's market in the corprate world only remains because of it legacy. AMD does have a stronger market in the gaming realm because that is where their market started, like Intels in the coprate world.

Intel has doe nothining to improve there processors exectept to increase clock speed and reduce the die size. Intel still uses a 20 stage pipline, while AMD uses a 12 stage pipline, so Intel is clocked faster and might beable to run a little faster but and amd processor can stil get things done faster as it does not have to do the same thing 20 times to complete a task.

...and if you look at those resault I'd say they sqeaked by, by the skin of the teeth. That wasn't a smoking at all.

They got by on luck, and a higher clock speed is all. In fact I think they might have just increased the muliplier, and and a couple of other thing.

Oh, and Boom, did you by chance see what the power consumtion is and the heat output, in comparison to the data through?  Do you really think it is and efficient processor.

So, I went and checked it out, its a descent Sprint mod. Best Sprint mod so far atleast.

First the Good.

They made it a weapon (good) now when you sprint, you tuck your gun away and can't shoot. most of the other mods thet I played let you shoot and sprint.

There is a time limit to sprinting, and a recharge untill the next time you can sprint. (good) most all the mods i played did have this. some did, but it was either run all the time, or if there was a time limit, you just stop and run again. plus you could still shoot.

it has a good pace set to it, it isn't like your going to fast. (good)

bad things

the made th 'F' key you run key, that is also the activate key. (bad) though not used a whold lot in MP mode, the 'F' is still and important key.
and I 'm not sure if it can be changed.

other then that its a desent mod.

Our results with Call of Duty 2’s 1.01 patch weren’t nearly as spectacular as the results we saw with Quake 4 1.05 a few weeks ago. In our testing, performance was at best on par with the initial retail release of the game. At worst, we saw performance declines of 3% or more, particularly on AMD Athlon 64 X2 systems. Intel’s Pentium Extreme Edition 840 didn’t fare much better either.

When we were done with our testing for this article, we ran a few quick benches with a GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB and saw no gains there either.

It’s possible that the demos we’re using just aren’t built to take advantage of the dual-core optimizations Infinity Ward has built into Call of Duty 2 1.01. Both of the demos we used came from the multiplayer portion of the game; perhaps things would have fared differently in the single-player campaign? Or perhaps Infinity Ward’s optimizations focused on other aspects of the game, such as the AI of German soldiers and friendly NPCs? If that’s the case, traditional benchmarking isn’t always capable of highlighting these types of differences.

Infinity Ward has been pretty mum on the details of this patch – they don’t even provide any type of indication of what kind of performance improvements end users should expect with the patch, so it’s difficult to know what’s going on here. Perhaps we’re testing the wrong aspects of the game with our demos, or perhaps the optimizations just aren’t as significant as everyone had expected in light of the huge gains found in Quake 4? Again, there just isn’t enough information out there to know.

We’ll see if we can get some answers from Infinity Ward/Activision on this, but in the meantime, we can’t help but feel a little disappointed by these results.

Despite today’s lackluster Call of Duty 2 performance results, we’re still extremely bullish on multi-core technology. While there’s only one game out there on the market showing significant gains thanks to dual-core technology, by the end of the year there will be dozens of titles on the market that have been designed with dual-core in mind.

Today’s results indicate that it isn’t easy getting everything up and running, AMD, ATI, Intel, and NVIDIA all need to work together to get their drivers ironed out, and all four must work with game developers to get the proper optimizations in place. (And we in the media may need to tweak the way we test all this software and hardware.) But make no mistake about it, multi-core is the way of the future.
