Time for a new router, again.
« on: December 01, 2009, 09:32:48 AM »
I am having problems with my router at home with issues where it slowly squeezes the life out of my Internet connection or just flat out cuts access to the web.  the only solution is to reboot the unit.

Now that the Mrs. is very active on the web all the time I can't have this because it disrupts the peace and quiet of the house when she can't get out.
Here are the two routers I am looking to replace my current unit:

Open Box: D-Link DGL-4500 IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11a/b/g, IEEE802.11n Draft Xtreme N Gaming Router

D-Link DIR-825 IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11a/g, IEEE802.11n Draft 2.0 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router - Retail

Could you let me know what your thoughts are on these?

Book: Very specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzy around the area of kneecaps.

Well, the Mrs. has finally had it with the Linksys so we bought a new router tonight.  It seems that Best Buy no longer carries D-Link so I had to go back to that page Boom linked and do a little more research.  I ended up buying the NetGear WNDR3700 instead.

Wow, what a unit! guest mode for both bands, a SPI firewall, logging, and filtering.  A business grade unit at ta consumer price.  Well worth it.  I had the units swapped out in less than 45 minutes with only 4 minutes downtime and never used teh wizard it came with.
