It's dead... Nooooooooooo!!!

ZWarrior:
I have had a very bad day for computers earlier this week.  For some time my office computer has been telling me that the vid card isn't getting enough power.  The PSU was an Enermax 415 I bought and put into the case 7 years ago.  It has done me well, but it's time to replace it. So I bought a new PSU at BestBuy and mount it in the case (I did such a great job with the cabling on the old PSU that it took almost 45 minutes to get the beast out of the case).  Unfortunately the PSU I bought is for the newer mobos and won't plug into my old Asus A7V mobo.

Thinking quickly I realize I have a barebones system sitting under my desk waiting for me to have time to build it. I pull it out and wonder of wonder it has the right type of PSU and it's a 400W!!  Saved by the scrounge again!  But now I don't remember what the fan control plugs to on the mobo.  No problem, I can roll over to the gaming pc and surf for the mobo manual...

Hmm, I cleared the screen saver, but all I have is the blue background, no login or anything.  Lemme give it a minute and it'll recover.  Ok, 5 minutes and nothing.  Reboot it.  Umm, nothing.  Case lights come on, power LED comes on, keyboard lights flash, but nothing else.  no POST. EEEEK!!!!

I finally had to run upstairs and grab my laptop from work to get the info I needed, and got the office computer back up.  BUt the gaming PC is down.  :swear:

Wouldn't you know it, Asus has THE WORST website in history.  Half the time their support section is down.  I did finally get into it yesterday and filed a ticket since I bought this Dec of last year, but as it stands the mobo and proc are sitting in a ji on my table plugged into that new PSU I bought (Hey look, it did have a purpose after all!) and connected to 15" tube monitor through a single 7600.  It's still not doing anything though.

I think it is either the proc or the mobo.  temps were fine, some of you may have seen those posts a while back.

Any suggestions guys?

Need more info. What M/b # and bios.
The M/b should have beep codes to tell you if it's the cpu ram ect.. I have found that if there are no beeps and can't get to the bios screen it's the M/B gone bad.
Can you get into the bios?
Does not post? how far can you get?
Make shure the PSU is good first. I do have a psu tester. No Power no worky

JollyRoger:
ZW, dude. You got to lay off the bean dip and egg sandwiches. This is just your computer putting its foot down.

Any update?

ZWarrior:
No BIOS, no beep.  I finally heard back from Asus on Sunday.  They said that there was only 2 reasons that a system shuts down, bad PSU and add-on cards shorting.

I isolated the board on my bench, and used a brand new PSU and it still wouldn't work.  It's in the truck and will be shipped out today for RMA.

I may still want that CPU Opie if you are still offering.
