asus P4pE-GBL , P4 2.53 , 512 PC2700 CL2/CAS 2 1 T. And one TruePower 430 power supply. Should be up and running by Sat.

OK, I'm looking at a mini upgrade for my vid card. I think I will have about $100.

Right now I have the ATI Radeon 64MB DDR Video in Video out Card.

So I see my choices as...

1) ATI 8500 (non LE) 64MB for ~$92 by Sapphire

2) GeForce4 Ti4200 64MB by Asylum for $100

So .... give me some insite.

Id go with the ATI myself But stay away from OEM and get Retail....

(OEM uses cheaper parts and are not as reliable)

You would be better off spending under $200 for an ati 9500 pro beat the 4600 when useing AA also DX 9. This card will take you into 2004. After Feb. look for prices to go down. You can pick up an Out Dated 4600 ($100- $125). All card prices will drop when the FX card comes out at $430 and then the MX's. Do not buy a card with only 64 megs. Doom needs 80 to run. UT 2003 will use 256 megs when the FX with 1 Gig comes out in Feb.

UT2003 will only require that much RAm when being used on an FX though. otherwise it will use what we give it.

For my money, if you HAVE to buy now, I would good with the ATI 8500 ( GASP!!! Did ZW really recommend an ATI??? ). Yep you heard me, the ATI. The reason is benchmarks show that the 8500 runs faster than the Ti 4200. Now if you were somparing the Ti 4400, that would be another story.

BTW, I had a chance to upgrade a client yesterday, and we went from a VGA out to a flatpanel to a DVI out to the same flatpanel. OH MY GOD!!!!!

The clarity difference was incredible! I knew that it would be better, but wow what a difference! Details showed up in stark contrast and it just looked so... so... BEAUTIFUL! :touched;

Well, I went and got the TI4200 yesterday, perhaps I should return it and order an 8500? Shoot! Now I don't know what to do. From the benchmarks at Tom's VGA Graph it looks like the TI4200 is faster. So what benchmarks have your seen ZW?

I can't remember the other ones, but I thought that the Tom's Chart said that the Ti 4200 was a step below the 8500, but then I was focused on the Ti 4400.

So I am still faster than anything ATI except the most expensive!

Well I was not looking to upgrade yet but I had an oppurtunity to build a machine for my brother-in-law with a budget of $500.00. So my goal was to bless him and get an upgrade. Concidering he was going to spend that much on a HP celeron machine with everything built into the MOBO I figured I could build a much better machine for the same money. I got him an Case Edge ATX Case with 350W PS for $59, a7v8x mobofor $130, I bought a xp2100 for $112, the same price I paid for my 1800 two months ago so I gave him my 1800 and put the 2100 in my machine. I bought a 128 meg ATI 8500 for $95 and sold him Kailees GF2MX-440 for $50. Got a 40 gig WD HD ATA100 for $99, sony 52x CDR for $24.50, installed a CDRW he had previously bought a year ago but didnt know how to install it and gave him my 512 of PC2100 I won at the last game day. Total cost was all was said and done was $506.00 Keep in mind the MOBO has integrated lan and onboard sound. I gave him my time and ended up with an upgrade. Kyle now has my GF2Ultra and is a happy camper. I am in need of a video card for Kailee yet but will pass mine to Kyle and the Ultra to her machine when I finally get the card I want.

Well, the card is in.

I had an interesting upgrade. Got the card installed, loaded the drivers and rebooted. As it was coming up, just got to the Windows XP start up screen. It crashed.

Troubleshoot, troubleshoot, troubleshoot, SHOOT! The power supply died! So, got a 450 Watt and fired it up. Here are the benchmark results.

107 fps either card

UT2003
65 fps Radeon 64mb DDR fly by
118 fps Geforce 4 TI 4200 fly by

Do this, go to www.sgi.com and look for a "Reality Center" with an Origin 3900 and V12 graphics. You want to see some graphics? Try having a system with 512 processor, 30 terabytes of RAM, and an internal system bandwith of 6.4 gb per second between componets. Oh, and BTW, this is a single system image, not a cluster like you have with Linux. And if you ever want to upgrade, we have systems that can be scaled up to 2048 processors and 120 tb of ram. Throw on a pedabyte or two of CXFS storage and our ready to model nuclear explosions.

Well.. my upgrade has been going for about 2 months or so. Finally after solving some voltage issues/jumpers, my system seems to be stable at the present time. I have reinstalled UT and haven't had a problem, glich, or a slow down since. I noticed something amazing saturday night. I have a Volcano 6+, I believe with an XP 1600+. Ever since I have had this cpu, it has ALWAYS run at about 107 degrees on boot up and then when tasking it with UT it usually heats up to an average 120 degrees. However, I went through and used some air to blow everything out again, did some Windows XP tweaking, bios flash and now something is different. I used ASus Probe the last 2 nights and was recording my temps and voltages on bootup and during UT. My rig was booting up at about 100 degrees and when playing UT for about an hour, my CPU rose to a whopping 105 degrees! WOO HOOO... Now I have aired out my case before and was never able to get my cpu down from the before temps, it always stayed the same.

Whatever it was...yahoooooooey!
