Actually, you are better off getting 2 -512MB sticks then a single 1GB stick.  Better performance to the amount of datapaths to access the RAM.

If the speeds are the same, then the only difference is that you are giving the system 2x the data paths to read and write to.  kinda like having a 4 lane road or a 2 lane road.  you can get more traffic through the 4 lane road.

So if you were looking for 2gig then you get 2 sticks of 1 gig and so on. By the way I still haven't found anything good or bad about Giel. But it doesn't look to bad.
